Sun Palace Cancun has you covered with a couples only all-inclusive resort that has amazing food, stunning pools, romantic spa services, and friendly staff. Sun Palace Cancun Location
Sun Palace Cancun is located near the south end of the popular Hotel Zone outside the Cancun. The resort is a short fifteen-minute drive from Cancun International Airport. This area of the Cancun Hotel Zone is quieter, less busy, and overall less frantic, perfect for a relaxing stay.
The Sun Palace Cancun Resort does not provide shuttle service. You can book transfer to your hotel from Cancun Airport Round-Trip Transfer as a shared shuttle option or private airport transfer. Alternatively, when booking direct with Palace Resorts, they sometimes have specials which include transportation.
Taxis are readily available at Cancun airport, but are $45 USD plus. Uber is illegal in Cancun and is not allowed to operate at the airport. That being said, Uber does operate in Cancun, and you can use the service at your own risk, just not from the airport.
We used Uber to get around Cancun, however the service was spotty at best. Sometimes we opened the app to get a ride and there were no cars for over 20 minutes. It’s best to always have a plan B if you want to use Uber to get around Cancun. Even though Uber is considered illegal, we consider it a much safer option than taking a taxi, and we also prefer having a clear upfront price and our location being tracked. All Uber drivers we had were super friendly and the service is surprisingly inexpensive.
If you don’t have any private transportation organized, a rental car is also a great option. All major brands are located at Cancun International Airport, and having a rental car is a great way to explore on your own and visit the area around Cancun. RentalCars.com is a great site to use to compare all of the different rental cars available at Cancun International Airport to find the best deal.
At Sun Palace Cancun Resort, self-parking and valet parking are both available and complimentary with your stay. Note that Sun Palace Resort has limited parking capacity.

Sun Palace Cancun Arrival
When arriving at the Sun Palace Cancun Resort, you will drive up to the large covered entrance and shortly be inside the impressive lobby. What we loved about the Sun Palace Cancun is that it seems like a smaller boutique style hotel, and not one of the incredibly large mega resorts that Mexico is known for. The lobby here is bright, airy, and beautifully designed. You will be assisted with check-in by one of the friendly staff, enjoy a welcome drink, and soon be along to your room to get your vacation started!
As we arrived during COVID-19 times, safety precautions were in place such as hand sanitizers and all of the staff were wearing face masks throughout our stay, as were most guests except when at the pool or dining at one of the restaurants.
The overall check-in process was completed quickly and easily and we were provided with wrist-bands that double as room keys. As we arrived early and our room wasn’t quite ready yet, we were free to get our vacation started and have lunch in the nearby restaurant. Soon after, our room was ready and we headed upstairs to check it out, with our luggage following closely behind.
Sun Palace Cancun Rooms
Sun Palace Cancun has a variety of luxury suites depending on your needs. The resorts mission is to create a couples only (really adults only) retreat, so suites are all designed for two, and include a number of romantic touches. When you arrive in the lobby, you are at the heart of the main building. From this area you have many restaurants off to your left and right, the pools are one level down towards the ocean, and the rooms are all located on the levels above. During our time at Sun Palace Cancun, we stayed in one of the Superior Junior Suites with Ocean View.
The first thing you will notice when stepping into your suite is that they were designed to maximize natural light and provide direct views of the spectacular Cancun turquoise waters and white sand beaches. Secondly, the suites are very well maintained, and have a fresh and clean feeling to them, also helped by the clean contemporary design.
The suite included a luxurious king-size bed, private bathroom, double whirlpool tub located with a view, and lots of amazing small touches. Suites all include bathrobes, slippers, luxury bath amenities, and bottle of wine to enjoy during your stay. In addition, the minibar has premium liquors, nonalcoholic drinks, snacks, and there is an in-room coffee maker. Everything is included with your stay as Sun Palace Cancun is fully all-inclusive!
The suite also includes a private balcony with seating for two. As the suites primarily all directly face the ocean, this is a great place to watch the sunrise early in the morning, or take in the stunning turquoise waters later in the day.
Sun Palace Cancun Amenities
The resort is primarily one large building, shaped like an ‘M’ facing the water for maximize ocean views. The lobby area is located at the center, and also includes a café and lobby bar. To the left-hand side you will find Aurora, the main restaurant, as well as shops, and more services. To the right-hand side is The Bar at Sun Palace, additional restaurants, and the Awe Spa. The spa has a number of services specifically designed for relaxation, as well as for couples.
The multiple pools are located directly outside, as is beach access in the center of the resort. As you will likely be spending a significant amount of time around the pool, Sun Palace has you fully covered. There are three main pools facing the ocean, with the left two being infinity pools and designed more for relaxing, sun tanning, and enjoying the amazing Mexican weather.
The pool to the right is the activity pool which will have volleyball and other activities going on throughout your stay. No matter which pool you choose to spend some time at there are plenty of lounge chairs available, as well as poolside food and drinks service.
The beach is also just a short walk away, with the entrance being near the activity pool. On the beach you will find a large number of cabanas that can be rented during your stay as well as additional lounge chairs for relaxing. We found the beach in front of Sun Palace Cancun to be quite approachable compared to other Cancun hotels where the waves can be quite intense.

This area of the beach is also less busy than the northern end of the Hotel Zone. Here you can easily take a quiet stroll in front of the nearby resorts, without having to weave your way through the crowded sand. The beach is also incredibly beautiful, as is the color of the water!
Sun Palace Cancun Dining
Sun Palace Cancun has a nice selection of restaurants to choose from so you’ll never have to eat in the same place all of the time, as you can try a different cuisine every night of the week. The below restaurants offer a great selection, but 24/7 in-room dining is also available if you don’t feel like leaving your room, and in-room dining is included as part of the all-inclusive experience.
The main restaurant for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Sun Palace Cancun is Aurora. The restaurant serves an incredible buffet breakfast. We enjoyed the made-to-order omelets each morning, as well as sampling the unique dishes offered in the buffet each day. For lunch, the buffet selection is just as extensive with a wide assortment of different types of food. Lastly, Aurora offers a Mexican cuisine a la carte dinner.
Throughout the day you can enjoy drinks and light bites at the outdoor snack bar near the activity pool, or by ordering through the poolside service from the comfort of your lounge chair. For the ultimate vacation experience, have a few afternoon drinks at the swim-up bar!
For dinner, there are a few different options available with different moods and styles, located throughout the resort. La Tratto is located just off the lobby area and serves Italian cuisine. La Tratto also has a great outdoor terrace with an amazing view of the ocean. As you can probably imagine, the restaurant Thai, serves some Thai food, however they also offer a great mix of other Asian cuisines. We enjoyed our meal here, but didn’t find it to be the most authentic experience.
There is also Fuego, featuring Latin American fire-roasted cuisine in a fully outdoor setting. This is a great place to enjoy some pre-dinner tapas and wine outdoors as the sun sets. After our dinners we also enjoyed stopping by The Bar at Sun Palace and having a drink on the outdoor terrace in the warm evening air.
In addition, there is a café and deli located between the check-in area and Aurora. Here you can get great lattes, snacks, and sweet treats throughout the day. We really enjoyed grabbing lattes and a pastry early in the morning before having a later breakfast.
Overall, the food at Sun Palace Cancun Resort was quite good, with breakfast and lunch at Aurora being our personal favorites.

Sun Palace Cancun Resort is an amazing all-inclusive resort to enjoy as a couple. The resort specializes in offering dedicated experiences to couples whether they are looking for a romantic experience or adventure. We really enjoyed the intimate size of the resort as it is not overbearingly large, yet still offers multiple dining options and everything else you would need for an incredible Cancun vacation.
